KathleenLights & ColourPop Zodiac Collection

Happy almost Fall, party people!  The best time of the year is just around the corner and I cannot wait.  Bring on all of the cliché autumn recipes and endless social media posts of funny memes making fun of the masses who have an addiction to pumpkin spice this and pumpkin spice that.

As I await cooler temperatures and busting out my turtleneck collection, I’ve been diving into some new makeup releases.  There seems to be no shortage of new launches hitting the beauty industry lately.  I tell myself that In have plenty of makeup and I don’t need yet another eyeshadow palette but…well…it’s my vice.

So let’s talk about YouTuber KathleenLights and ColourPop’s latest collaboration called The Zodiac Collection.  First of all, yes, I am aware that there have been quite a few KathleenLights collabs with ColourPop.  And you know what?  I love it!  I’ve been subscribed to KathleenLights for years as well as a ColourPop fan since they first hit the market so anytime they have a collection together, I am totally down.

Kathleen dropped a video back in July showing her excitement for her upcoming collaboration.  If you’ve never watched her videos, Kathleen is super into astrology and it was refreshing to see her passion as she gushed in extreme detail over creating these products.

My birthday was also in July, which means I am a Cancer, which made the timing of the launch of this collection a bit more fun. Does this mean that the stars were aligned just for me?  Maybe?  Ok.  Yes, that was a cheesy joke.  Truth be told, the most experience I’ve had with astrology was occasionally reading my horoscope in a magazine.   But that doesn’t mean I wasn’t completely obsessed with the look of this collection.

As soon as the Zodiac collection launched on ColourPop’s site, my laptop mouse was aimed and ready to click “Checkout Now”.  And if you missed the launch date, don’t fret.  You can still order it now on ColourPop’s site.

Here’s what you can snag in this set:  One eyeshadow palette, two Lux lipsticks, 2 Supernova shadows and two Super Shock highlighters.

I had a gift card and managed to snag the entire collection at nearly no cost.  Yippee!  But even if you end up purchasing the entire collection at full price, it is an affordable $59.00 for a whopping seven products – including a palette.  Gimme!  Gimme!  Gimme!

The Packaging

Just look at this packaging!  It is stunning.  The outside packaging comes in both a royal blue as well as black cardboard and is embossed with beautiful gold constellations and astrological symbols.  The protective packaging that covers the product is so adorable that I am having a hard time parting with it.

The Zodiac Eyeshadow Palette

At first glance, you may be scratching your head over the shade range and their compatibility with one another.  But you can play around with this versatile palette to create wearable daytime looks and you can also amp up your look with lots of sparkles.

Here are the shadows swatched on my freckly arms:

The palette includes 7 shimmer shades, one satin finish shade and four matte shades.  For the most part, the shadows perform beautifully.  They blend well and have decent color pay off.  All except for one shadow.  Nooooooo!!!  Not that gorgeous cobalt blue shade, right?!  Yes.  Sadly, the shade The Aquarius is very powdery and tends to have a difficult time sticking to your lid.  I had blended it…and blended it……………and blended it.  After all that effort, it was patchy and a little sad.  I love pretty much any blue hue shadow so this one made me shed a little tear.

Even though The Aquarius broke a tiny piece of my heart, the rest of the palette made up for its lackluster performance.  Two of my favorite shades are The Pisces and The Capricorn.  The Pisces is a dazzling aqua shadow and The Capricorn is a rich black shade with green and blue undertones loaded with specs of glitter.

Below is a sassy berry look using the shades The Saittarius, The Scorpio, The Aquarius and The Capricorn.

Lux Lipsticks

If you’re like me, you’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of mostly wearing nothing but liquid lipsticks on your lips.  I tend to steer clear of traditional lipsticks as I hate to reapply or have the products smear all over my face (I am a messy eater).

But my lips tend to get as rough as a nail file so I’ve been occasionally swapping my matte liquid lipsticks for a traditional lipstick or a cream liquid lipstick with a satin finish.  I had seen ColourPop’s launch of their Lux Lipsticks a while back, but never got around to purchasing one to try.  So grabbing them in a bundled deal was the perfect way to try them out.

These lipsticks are a breath of fresh air for my lips.  They are rich and hydrating with full color pay off after one swipe.  They have a good grip and they stay in place.  I was surprised by how long they lasted on my lips.  I must admit that even though I may need to reapply a traditional lipstick more often than a matte liquid lipstick, it is a heck of a lot easier to do so.  I don’t need an arsenal of lipstick remover wipes, concealer and tissues to touch up my lips.  I just swipe, blot and away I go!  The finish of these little lip wonders is a creamy-matte.

The Shades:

Scorpio moon is a luscious mauve shade that has a hint of a purply-berry tone.  It’s my favorite shade from the two lipsticks in the set because my pale lips need some color!

What’s Your Sign? is a bit of a neutral nude shade with some orangey-brown tones.  On my very fair skin, it appears a tad deeper than some swatches that I’ve seen online.

Supernova Shadows

Heavens to Betsy!  I simply adore the Supernova Shadows!  These two shadows are a liquid formula with a metallic finish.  You can blend them out for a sheer wash of color, add them as a topper or tap them on your lids for a powerful punch of glitter and shimmer.

These two colors are dazzling.  It’s been a scorcher of a summer where I live and I was shocked to see how long these babies stayed in place without flaking, smudging or fading.

Application:

If you want to wear these as a base, ColourPop recommends to apply them to your lid using the applicator and then blend and thin out the product out with your finger or a brush.  These shadows dry down pretty fast so you better work and work quickly!

To apply the shadows as a topper (on top of another product), gently tap and blend on your base using your finger.

To wear these alone, toss some on your lid using the applicator and tap to blend the product with your finger or a brush.

The Shades:

Astrology is a unique glitzy olive-gold shade that will have you hooked.

Costellation is a gorgeous champagne shade with pink, brown and gold tones.  Gimme all that shimmer!

Super Shock Highlighters

My all-time favorite highlighter is ColourPop’s Flexitarian.  With my fair skintone, many highlighters don’t show up with a glowing sheen on my skin.  I love a beaming highlight that is so bright that you need sunglasses, but it’s often challenging for me to find one.  But Flexitarian shows up on my cheek with a majestic glow.  It’s remained my daily go-to since it’s an intense white champagne shade.  So when I saw the two highlighter shades included in the Zodiac Collection, I immediately got the vibe that they may be too dark for my fair skin.

The Super Shock Highlighters have a bouncy texture when you touch the product in its pan.  I then like to apply it with my fingertips by tapping it on my cheekbones and then softly tapping the product out until any harsh edges are diffused.  It dries down to a somewhat powdery finish that stays in place.  It’s also one of the only highlighters that I’ve found to not emphasize any texture or fine lines.  It’s just flipping awesome.

The Shades:

Fire is a peachy gold shade that will have your cheekbones glistening.  It’s a tad too dark to give my a super glossy sheen but it did add a bit of a glow.  I ended up using this as an eyeshadow and it gave my lids some magical shimmer.

On the Cusp is a bright gold shade that gave my cheeks a subtle glow.  I tried this out in the inner corner of my eyes and it was a lovely.

Overall, I love the Zodiac Collection.  It’s full of things that I adore.  I’m easily distracted by sparkle, vivid colors and products that create a hypnotic glow.  I also love makeup that doesn’t cost a zillion dollars which makes ColourPop even more appealing.
